Verified Reviewer |Problems with 5th wheel
TO: Bretz RV and Grand Design04/21/2022I purchased a Grand Design RV (320MKS) in July 2021 from Bretz Nampa. I have had nothing but problems with the plumbing system.
There are a few other minor problems with the RV but the plumbing one is by far the worse. Attached is a survey that I filled out that came from Grand Design in December 2021. If you read my narrative, it will explain the whole situation. I did not have time to address this problem while building my house, so I am doing it now.
I am sending a copy to Bretz and Grand Design.
SURVEY -
Hi my name is Nick Fontecchio, survey key number 0000-0023-2644. I received your survey and have had nothing but problems with the connections to the water system. In order for you to see the whole picture, this are my circumstances:
I recently sold my house and am building another house so I decided to buy a 5th wheel and live in it while the house is being built. I went to a local RV dealer (Bretz RV) they showed me 5th wheels and we decided on the 320 MKS. We told the salesman about our (wife and I) plans to live in the 5th wheel while the house was being built.
The salesman told us that the 320MKS would be perfect for our situation. The salesman also told us that Grand Design had a great system for repairing their 5th wheels and had their own fleet of repair vehicles. He drove us over to the service department and showed us a white Ford truck loaded with equipment and tools. The vehicle had Grand Design decal on the doors.
He continued to tell us that we had any problems Grand Design had these repair trucks and they would be there for us. My wife and I liked what we heard and decided to make the purchase. I am now living full time in the 5th wheel on my lot next to where my house is being built.
The first week in the RV we noticed water on the floor in the bathroom. From what we could see a small area under the shower door track was leaking.
I immediately called Bretz RV in Nampa, Idaho. I talked to the service department and told them the problem. The female representative told me I would have to make and appointment and the first date they had was 3 weeks out. I told them I was living in the RV and could not bring it in for service.
I asked about the Service trucks that we had been shown before buying the 5th wheel. The service person told me that she had never heard about any service vehicles. I told her we were shown one of the trucks by the salesman. She told me that she did not know what I was talking about.
I again told her I had no where to live, if my RV was getting repaired. She was not helpful or sympathetic about my situation and said Bretz could not help me in anyway. She then told me it was Grand Designs problem gave me the customer service number and hung up. After the call I could not believe what I was told so I called the Grand Design customer service number.
Before she hung up, I told her I wanted to talk to her supervisor and she told me she would have the sales manager call me back. I never received a call back.
I talked with a representative and told him the whole story. I was told that there was nothing he could do for me. When I asked about the service trucks, he told me that they could not be used in my situation.
I was blown away at this point and I got mad and argued with the representative. I asked him what he would do if he was in my position. He then told me there was a way and began to tell me about having it fixed and then submitting the bill to Grand Design. If Grand Design reviewed it and thought it was a legitimate claim they would pay for the repair.
I asked the guy why he did not tell me this first before I got mad at him. He told me he was only supposed to give that information out as a last resort. I then terminated the call.
I contacted 3 local RV repair services about coming out and repairing the shower. All of them said it was too small of a job and would not provide service.
The last guy told me to just re-silicone the door track myself. With no other alternatives or other options, I did the repair myself. I cleaned the inside of the track and applied a generous coat of silicone on the inside of the metal track. That problem is now fixed and I verified that no water was leaking from the shower.
We still had water on the floor after the repair and it seemed to seeping from under the shower pan. I started to check the area and found that the towels in the cabinet next to the shower on the 2nd shelf were all wet. I could see that the side wall panel was removable. I removed the panel and saw water leaking from the hot water valve area.
Further inspection revealed that the white screw on elbow was loose and there was a constant drip coming from the joint. I used my hand to tighten the elbow and the drip stopped. The water had been dripping for days the paneling was wet and the bottom of the frame area at the floor was soaked. The material was starting to disintegrate and the cabinet face had swelled up with water.
The water was running on the floor and out from under the shower pan area. I put a fan in the cabinet and dried out the entire area.
In the last month I have had water leaking from the storage area under the 5th wheel where the clean out valves are located. It was coming from under where the city water hooks up. I removed the screws from the side wall and pulled it open.
When I looked inside, I could see that some of the white pex fitting attached to the threaded fitting were dripping. I tighten them and the drips stopped. I also noticed that the white hose going to the electric water pump was collapsed. I dont know if this is normal and it may need repair/replacement.
These fitting are the same type as the one leaking in the shower. I have had two more instances where more of the fittings leaked and have tightened all of them. Each time I had to remove large puddles of water on the floor of the storage compartment. The laminate flooring material is damaged and bubbled up from the subflooring in a few places.
This whole situation is not acceptable with me.
If I knew that your company was not willing to stand behind its product, I would have never purchased it. I am not happy with Bretz RV and Grand Design. As for Bretz I will not be doing business with them again. My house will be done in the next month at that time I am going to find another RV dealer to take the 5th wheel to for repair.
I would hope that your company would replace or repair the damage and possible the pex elbows that were leaking. With the cooperation I got during the whole ordeal Im not counting on it. At this point I would not recommend Grand Design to anyone and I dont have anything good to say about my experience with your company.
I have photograph of water damage and of the pex joint dripping if needed.

Since the survey, I continued to have problems with the plumbing. I have had to tighten the plumbing connections at least 10 times. Each time I had to clean up large puddles of water on the storage area floor. The service from Bretzs and Grand Design has been terrible.
Im apprehensive about having Bretz work on my RV after my experience with their service department. I will attach some photos of the leaks and damage it has caused.
***The pictures did not attach I have them if needed.

Verified ReviewerBrand New Grand Design Imagine MLE 22
My husband and I purchase a 2021 Grand Design Imagine MLE22 at an RV show in Boise on Feb.14, 2021. It took three months for manufacturing, which is not the problem, Our dealer took another 10 days to "test it out".
When we picked it up, there was an F1 code on the air conditioner and some minor side molding issues. No big deal, we took it out without air because the external sensor was missing, and they did not have shop time to repair it. When we took it in at the scheduled repair time, they told us "that's a pretty big job to try and squeeze in" even though we made the appointment 3 weeks earlier.
We went to pick it up, and they said it wasn't just the sensor, but the entire computer board. Since we had camping reservations, we took it out again without air.
While on this trip, we discovered that the water heater isn't working. So we took it back in on July 5, 2021. They said there was a huge delay for the computer board, maybe up to a month!.
Today I called to find out the progress, and it took them 11 days to get the warranty approval, but now they are waiting for a part number. I asked how long after they get the part number will it take and was informed that "if" it is in stock with the vendor, it could take 10-14 business days to get the part.
I didn't dare ask how long to install!
We bought this beautiful travel trailer to enjoy this summer and beyond, but so far it has spent more days at Bretz RV than at a camp site!.
We are beyond frustrated. We believe Grand Design is a high class trailer but at this point I would be hard- pressed to give Grand Design or Bretz RV a good review.
Respectfully Submitted,
Anna Wallace

AC on new travel trailer has wires coming apart but I had to pay to get it fixed.
Bought a brand new 2021 Keystone Springdale trailer May 2020. We rarely camp where there are hookups and haven't had a generator until recently.
Since it's been a scorching summer, we finally bought a big generator so we could run the AC. First time running the AC it didn't work. Had to schedule an appointment for service a few weeks out. Delivered the camper on a Friday, was told that Monday or Tuesday I would receive a call to tell me what was wrong and if it was covered by the extended warranty that I was stupid enough to purchase in spite of my reservations.
Wednesday I called to see the status.
There are two options, one is leaving a voicemail, one is sending an email which the message says is the quicker way. Thursday morning I called again and was told that the problem was a loose wire and that loose wires are considered wear and tear. I am being charged $200+ because loose wires are not covered by the warranty, and they charge $229 per hour.
To recap, AC wasn't working on a brand-new trailer.
I took it in for service. I received no call telling me what was wrong and am now charged $200 to fix something that never worked.
- Lots of inventory
- Customer service does not keep their word or their own schedule
Preferred solution: There should be zero charge for a wire coming loose on a new camper's AC that's never been used.
User's recommendation: Don't buy from them in the first place, and certainly don't buy the extended warranty.

I don't need to go into details. My experience with the salesman was probably run-of-the-mill.
Very nice, pleasant, sociable, you can trust me because I care about you and your family, blah, blah, blah.
Then they hand you off to the folks that are focused on separating you from your money. They will say anything, lie about what they will fix for you. They use high pressure / scare tactics to convince you to purchase their service warranty, their tire protection, their fabric and window treatment, etc. They thought I would be okay adding $13,000 to the purchase price because it was for my good!
And when I said no to all their extras their attitude was, get the papers signed and get her out the door.
They are lower than tactics by Used Car sales people. Once they have your money, they forget who you are. Good luck getting anything fixed they said they would.
They always tell me how busy they are.
I bought my MH at Bretz in Missoula, MT. Never again.

We are hoping to save one consumer by posting our recent horrific experience with Bretz RV & Marine. My husband and I found a tri- toon boat we were interested in at Bretz RV and Marine in Nampa Idaho.
Our first of many bad experiences is neither of their sales reps called us back after a week, us visiting their show room floor and leaving a voice mail. My husband and I thought, if this is how they treat their cliental with a possible $80,000 sale on the line I wonder how they are with service and warranty work. After receiving no communication from Bretz, I reached out to the owner/ manufacturoring company of the Barletta boat on Facebook hoping to deal with them directly. Within no time I had a phone call from the owner himself.
He apologized for Bretz poor behavior in not contacting us back and said, he would contact the owner Dave Bretz. That night we hear from Dave, all was smoothed over and we were ready to move forward with looking into possible financing and taking the boat for a test drive. We were told by Bretz sales rep in order for us to take the tri-toon boat for a test drive we needed to sign their “Purchase Agreement” and put a $1,000 down. BEWARE!!!!
We didn’t realize by signing the requested purchase agreement we were being tricked into buying the boat. Ask yourself these two questions, why would anyone buy a boat or anything for this matter that we never test drove and why would we buy a boat where we didn’t know the terms/ rates of our loan on?? After a week of back and forth in trying to get our credit unfrozen to see what possible financing we could get, my husband and I were both getting a bad feeling about the whole experience, we told Bretz financial employee we were not interested in the boat and wanted our $1,000 back. At first he said, no problem, the funds will probably take 3-5 business days to hit your bank.
Both my husband and I thought that was the end, until we receive a call from Dave Bretz (owner) in a very pissy voice saying, we did not have the option to back out, by signing the purchase agreement we had bought the boat and he was sending us over to his legal department. Shortly after his phone call we received a letter from Bretz RV in house counselor basically saying, we were to make arrangements to come in and purchase the boat. We hired an attorney who sent a letter back basically saying, Bretz was misleading, false and deceptive to us the consumer. Bretz also failed to provide us with the second page of the purchase agreement that provided all our rights and Bretz ran my husbands credit without him signing the bank credit application.
Bretz thought by sending us a letter from their in- house counselor it would scare us into purchasing the boat. What they didn’t realize is we had saved text between their sales rep and us that helped our case. There was no way we were going to be forced into buying something we did not agree to terms on. After several weeks we did end up getting our $1,000 back, but not our attorneys fees, sleepless nights or our faith to do business with Bretz EVER AGAIN!!
Please... take our experience into consideration when dealing with Bretz RV & Marine. Do your own research and see what others are saying as well.
Is this really how a so-called “family business” is suppose to take care of their clients? By essentially getting them to sign a purchase agreement before a test drive and then scaring them with a letter from their legal department into buying something you didn’t agree to purchase!
